Overview

Clinical care of patients with thyroid disorders is increasingly complex. This conference will provide a comprehensive and current update in the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. The presentations are a combination of evidence-based medicine and clinical experience, patient cases and clinical findings. Also included are expert panel discussions that will help inform practice decisions on complex clinical cases.

Surgeons, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistance working in endocrinology, otolaryngology, endocrine surgery, pathology and internal medicine will benefit from this program covering recent advancements and current debates.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
  1. Use the most up-to-date data and guidelines for a new thyroid nodule work up.
  2. Differentiate the need for surgical intervention vs. active surveillance for various thyroid nodules, incorporating various aspects of the nodule characteristics.
  3. Determine type of treatment needed depending on the type of thyroid cancer.
  4. Identify which patients will benefit from adjuvant therapy including RAI, XRT, and chemotherapy.
  5. Critique recent changes to thyroid pathology and molecular testing to the impact on patient care and treatment recommendations.
  6. Evaluate the ideal candidates, basic principles, limitations, and risks of radiofrequency ablation.
